We are committed to growing our business in a sustainable manner. We recognize that the environment, communities, and cultural heritage of Sri Lanka are vital to the long-term success of JourneyScapes (Pvt) Ltd as a Destination Management Company.
Responsible travel is one of our core values. We aim to maximize the positive economic and social impacts of tourism while minimizing negative environmental, cultural, and economic effects. Through strong sustainability management, we continuously improve customer satisfaction, ensure compliance with applicable Sri Lankan legislation, prevent environmental degradation, and contribute meaningfully to the communities where we operate.
This policy outlines what we have achieved, what we are currently implementing, and what we aim to accomplish in the future. Sustainability is embedded in our product development, operations, supplier relationships, and stakeholder engagement. It is an ongoing commitment shared by all employees and partners of JourneyScapes (Pvt) Ltd.
We therefore commit to the following objectives:
Comply with all relevant Sri Lankan legislation and integrate sustainable development principles into our core business practices
Use our position as a Destination Management Company to promote sustainability within our destinations
Preserve the environment and continually improve our environmental performance
Optimize our social and economic impact to enhance local livelihoods and reduce tourism leakage
Provide information, training, and support to employees, suppliers, and stakeholders to encourage sustainable practices
Promote sustainable travel options and provide responsible travel information to our clients
In Our Offices
We ensure that all employees understand our sustainability goals and are accountable for implementing sustainable practices in their daily work.
We provide sustainability training for staff members and tour guides to strengthen responsible tourism practices.
We monitor, reduce, and responsibly manage waste, including minimizing single-use plastics and reducing paper consumption.
We measure our energy and resource consumption and actively seek ways to improve efficiency and reduce our environmental footprint.
We prioritize purchasing local products and services and limit unnecessary packaging wherever possible.
We respect our employees’ diversity, promote equal opportunity, and support their wellbeing and professional development.
We raise awareness among employees and partners about sustainable tourism through training sessions, workshops, and shared best practices.
We communicate our sustainability achievements and progress through internal reviews and external reporting at least annually.
We establish key performance indicators (KPIs) and conduct regular evaluations to ensure continuous improvement of our sustainability efforts.
On the Ground
We prioritize working with locally owned businesses that reflect Sri Lanka’s cultural heritage, including hotels, lodges, restaurants, handicraft outlets, and cultural centers.
We promote eco-friendly accommodations and services by encouraging travelers to choose environmentally responsible options.
We monitor our supply chain and collaborate with partners to improve their sustainability performance through training and shared best practices.
We ensure that tours and activities do not adversely affect the environment, wildlife, children, or local communities. We promote responsible wildlife tourism and culturally sensitive experiences.
We develop actionable strategies to reduce waste, conserve energy, and promote biodiversity in tourism destinations.
We support sustainable transportation initiatives, including promoting public transport, shared transport options, and low-emission travel alternatives where possible.
We engage local communities in tourism planning and decision-making processes to ensure tourism benefits local populations.
We organize and support community initiatives such as clean-up campaigns, tree-planting programs, cultural preservation activities, and conservation projects.
We encourage volunteer tourism and responsible visitor engagement in conservation and community development initiatives.
We collaborate with tourism stakeholders, including tour operators, hotels, local authorities, community organizations, and CSR partners, to strengthen sustainable tourism practices across the sector.
We educate travelers on responsible travel behavior and provide guidance to help them make informed and sustainable travel choices.
