The Hamilton Canal or the Dutch Canal is a 14.5 km canal connecting Puttalam to Colombo, passing through Negombo in Sri Lanka. The canal was constructed by the British in 1802 and completed in 1804. The purpose of the canal was to drain salt water out of the Muthurajawela wetlands.
In this one day trip we will take you on a boat ride in the morning so that you can enjoy the bright sunshine and encounter the sight of fishermen casting their nets in the open water of the lagoon. Cruising alongside the fishing boats and seeing a wide range of water birds, waders and groups of gulls on the sand is a pleasurable experience that you will not want to miss.
