Dehigaha Ela Tree House

Back of Beyond, Dehigaha Ela on the other hand is a unique open grassland ringed in by streams, trees, and hills down a maze of red earth village roads.

Dehigaha Ela retreat is built on a 7-acre land build even more minimally than at our other retreats: treetop houses, boulder cottages, and a longhouse for families.

A network of red earth roads takes you deep into isolation where you can witness Chena cultivation blending with high grass and thick forests.

An abandoned paddy field has become a delicated green of illuk grass; a circular clearing at the base of a hill, ringed by thick forest on the sweeping curve of two streams leading to a small secret place for all forms of wildlife – elephants, sambhur, birds and butterflies – to visit. It’s a nature lovers dream.

Sinharaja Rainforest Eco Lodge

The Rainforest Ecolodge is located in the Sinharaja Division of the Enselwatte Estate in Deniyaya approximately 18 km from the Deniyaya town.


This plot of previously cultivated tea land borders the south-western fringe of the Sinharaja forest reserve. Sinharaja rainforest is a UNESCO Natural World Heritage Site inscribed in 1988. The Sinharaja is also a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve and a Biodiversity Hotspot as designated by the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN). All these titles highlight the importance of the forest reserve and hence the location of the Ecolodge in terms of its biodiversity as well as its fragility. In selecting this location, the importance of committing to the conservation of its surroundings and promoting the cause through its development and operations.

The Ensalwatta Estate, which is managed by the Mathurata Plantations Limited. The area has a perennial wet climate and it approximately 900 – 1000 meters above the sea level.
