Introduction

Nestled in the Indian Ocean, Sri Lanka—fondly known as the Pearl of the Indian Ocean and the Wonder of Asia—is a small island rich in diversity and charm. Recognised by National Geographic as one of the world’s top travel destinations, the country boasts an extraordinary blend of natural beauty and cultural heritage.

Home to one of the world’s 34 biodiversity hotspots, Sri Lanka offers remarkable wildlife, lush landscapes, and a wealth of history, including eight UNESCO World Heritage Sites—six cultural and two natural. With its tropical climate, golden beaches, vibrant culture, and diverse communities, it is no surprise that Marco Polo once described it as the “best island of its size in the world”.

Trip Itinerary

Day 1 | AIRPORT to SIGIRIYA
Travel Time: 3.5 hours / 155 km

Arrive at Bandaranaike International Airport, where you will be warmly welcomed and introduced to your journey. Travel to Sigiriya, located in Sri Lanka’s cultural triangle.

In the afternoon, enjoy a cycling tour through the village en route to the Sigiriya Rock Fortress, one of the most extraordinary artistic complexes of its time (477–498 AD). This magnificent citadel, declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1982, continues to attract visitors with its remarkable artistic and architectural heritage. Pause at a village temple to witness daily rituals and soak in the spiritual ambience.

Conclude your day with a rejuvenating 10-minute Ayurvedic massage at Sigiriya Jungle Hotel, then enjoy a sumptuous dinner at the hotel.
DAY 2: SIGIRIYA – ANURADHAPURA & HIRIWADUNNA
After breakfast, proceed on a sightseeing tour of Anuradhapura, the ancient capital of Sri Lanka (UNESCO World Heritage Site). Visit the ruins of the first capital, founded in the 5th century BC, where the largest concentration of ancient monuments from a great civilization can be found. Buddhism found its first true home in Sri Lanka at Anuradhapura, and the city contains some of the most sacred sites in Sri Lankan Buddhism.

Thereafter, continue to Hiriwadunna for a village trek and cooking demonstration with lunch. The Hiriwadunna village experience offers an opportunity to immerse yourself in the nature and culture of authentic Sri Lankan village life. The tour begins with a bullock cart or tractor ride near the village pond, followed by a catamaran boat ride across to the rural village.

After a short walk through paddy fields and vegetable cultivation, you will arrive at a village house, where you will witness traditional Sri Lankan cooking and enjoy an authentic local lunch. You will also have the opportunity to taste kurumba (young coconut) or king coconut, freshly served by the villagers.

Return to the hotel for dinner and an overnight stay.
DAY 3: SIGIRIYA – AGRO FARM
After breakfast, visit CIC Agri Farm in Hingurakgoda. CIC Seed Production Farm, the largest in Sri Lanka, is located in the Polonnaruwa District. Hingurakgoda is well known for its paddy cultivation. The farm receives irrigation water from the Minneriya Reservoir through a distribution channel.

The total extent of the farm is around 1,300 acres, with approximately 750 acres under paddy cultivation. The remaining highland areas are used for perennial crops and livestock. The farm employs modern agricultural techniques and advanced mechanization while preserving traditional knowledge and conventional farming practices.

Enjoy lunch at the agri farm. If time permits, stop to experience and taste a variety of fresh Sri Lankan fruits.

Return to the hotel and enjoy leisure time. Dinner and overnight stay.
DAY 4: SIGIRIYA – KANDY
Travel Time: 2.5 hours / 90 km

En route, visit the Dambulla Cave Temple, a magnificent rock temple and UNESCO World Heritage Site, built in the 1st century BC. It is recognized as the largest cave sanctuary in the world, with over 2,000 square meters of walls and ceilings adorned with more than 150 Buddha images. The largest of these is carved into the rock and reaches a height of 14 meters.

Continue the journey with a visit to a spice garden in Matale, where you will also experience an Ayurvedic massage lasting 10–15 minutes.

Thereafter, visit a batik factory and observe the artistic process involved in creating vibrant colours and intricate designs on fabric. (Island & Baba Batiks)

In the afternoon, visit the Temple of the Sacred Tooth Relic of the Buddha, the founder of Buddhism. The sacred relic was brought to Sri Lanka in the 4th century AD and has since been regarded as a symbol of sovereignty, enshrined in great splendour.

Later, enjoy a traditional Sri Lankan cultural performance.

Return to the hotel for dinner and an overnight stay.

Declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1988, the influences of the Portuguese, Dutch, and British are clearly reflected in the fort’s distinctive architectural styles.

Later, enjoy a boat ride on the Madu River, where the estuary forms a complex network of waterways and islands. This rich ecosystem creates a stunning wetland environment, making the boat ride a truly memorable experience.

Arrive and check in to the hotel. Dinner and overnight stay.
