Mirissa is one of the island’s main whale and dolphin watching destinations. It is a small town on the south coast of Sri Lanka, located in the Matara District of the Southern Province, approximately 150 kilometers south of Colombo, situated 4 meters above the sea level.
Mirissa is the best place for whale and dolphin watching in Sri Lanka. The whale watching season in Mirissa starts from November to April. The rare blue whales as well as fin whales, sei whales, sperm whales, orcas whales, dolphins, flying fish, turtles, manta rays and whale sharks, etc. can be spotted in Mirissa.
